These circles are created with code using a technique called “ray marching”. In this case, it’s calculating the distance (using a signed distance function) to a sphere, with some dynamic lighting and shadows. The metaball effect is created by blending the spheres together using a cubic smooth min/max function.

Da var det fredda og her er mitt bidrag til Kaffe Dailies.Fikk tak i TRY-logoen i svg, som jeg importerte inn i Blender. Gjorde en del grep for å kutte ned på unødvendige polys, og generell optimalisering. Deretter konverterte til en mesh, ga dybde, og så kappet opp i mindre deler – hver del med hvert sitt korte navn, så eksportert som GLTF.

Så ble alt satt sammen igjen i three.js, brukte Ortho-kamera for et "flatt" uttrykk, pluss en mini-bevegelse med hjelp av gsap. Her kunne det nok ha vært progget mye smuthere, men tid-tid...

Sånn i etterkant, kan vi si at alle de små delene kan representere et og annet fagfelt, som tilsammen danner try-logoen/huset, woohoo!

Eftersom jag i stort sett blev färdig med min Blender-donut förra helgen, så har jag under veckan bara gjort lite småtweaking på vissa delar som inte fungerade helt. Bland annat så blev det en bald patch i icingen där det inte blev genererat några sprinkles, 

 kom på att om man sculptade in lite volym i det området så poppade det fram lite sprinkles, och så blev det lite grönstick på undersidan av donuten som justering av färger i subsurface scattering löste.

Men det jag har gjort idag är att utforska Substance Painter lite mer. Jag följde en tutorial som snabbt gick igenom skaft och wrapping, sen droppade han bara ett Smart material på bladet och så var allt slut. Så då blev det lite tweaking på egen hand för att få till ett eget. Men baserat på det jag hade satt upp så fick jag till något som ser helt ok ut, men behöver få lite mer tweaking innan det sitter helt.

Så om jag ska texturera fler modeller i samma stil så har jag nu några färdiga Smart materials som jag kan använda mig av och finjustera.

Donut #2

På min Kaffe Daily så valde jag att sätta mig ned i Blender 3.0 för att ge det ett ärligt försök att lära mig mer om 3D. Jag tror det är lurt med tanke på de projekt vi önskar göra här. Men också tror jag det är bra att kunna ta hjälp av 3D-referenser både som illustratör och animatör. Jag gick igenom den klassiska Donut-tutorialen. Tyvärr så tar det sjukt lång tid att rendra en animation. Så här är en stillbild. Nu har jag hittat några fina tutorials på 3d-karaktärer på Skillshare som jag kommer fördjupa mig i.

Donut #1

Denne er egentlig en forlengelse av noe jeg har testet ut før, men ville teste det noe mer. Det er noise som følger musepekeren prosjektert på en noe “levende” icosahedron.

Yesterday was the start of Kaffe Dailies, a series of daily experiments over in Creative Tech. I took the chance to combine Photogrammetry and WebGL and the result works surprisingly well (at least in Chrome ). Check it out here:

The photogram of the kitchen was done in about a minute using an iPhone 13. The latest iPhones have a LIDAR which makes photogrammetry very accessible. The result was a model of the kitchen which could then be imported into a WebGL scene allowing me to animate it and add interaction. I created a point cloud from the vertices as well as a mesh, first the point cloud is animated from random positions, and then the mesh is revealed. Moving the cursor allows us to see the points through the mesh.

The mesh is made up of over 100k vertices. To animate that many vertices (somewhat) efficiently the particle animation is done inside of a Vertex shader. Working with shaders is sorcery and I’m still a newb, so I only managed a basic animation and interaction. But it shows that there is potential to work with photogrammetry and 3D scanning within WebGL.
